NHS Opens Doors

NHS Opening DayOn May 26, 2006, Mayor Phil Gordon officiated at the celebratory opening of Neighborhood Housing Services new office location on McDowell Road in central Phoenix. A new tree was planted, and the Mayor, NHS leadership and project team members from Thompson + Pollari and RAJ Construction lifted construction shovels to help with planting.

NP Student CenterNP Student Center under construction

  • Structural framing substantially complete with the steel frame and masonry bearing walls ready to receive exterior wall framing and roofing
  • LEED research and submittal work is progressing, with the new goal for GOLD certification within reach

NP students are producing designs for custom tile for the Student Center 

  • Navajo Preparatory School students are producing custom wall tile designs for the main corridor in the new Student Center, that will be reviewed in “design competition” critique format with School leadership and T+P
  • This will be the second time that a design competition has produced interior design for new buildings on the campus, with the first competition for custom carpet for the Phase I Dormitories. Designs for this competition were based on traditional Navajo rug patterns.  Ernestine Chaco won the competition with her modified “Two Grey Hills” design and the final carpet pattern was produced directly from her sketch, with some color and scale work by T+P 

Tivoli HeigthsTivoli Heights Village gaining new tenants

  • New tenants started moving into the first phase of Tivoli Heights Village in January of 2009, with phase two units moving toward completion for occupancy in April
  • The new Clubhouse is up and running, with good use of the new wide screen TV for viewing spring ball games and the start of tennis season

Catherine Arms Apartments construction moving forward

  • Catherine ArmsThis 28-unit affordable housing project is under construction by Adolpson and Peterson Construction; the project is located right in downtown Phoenix at the intersection of Fillmore Street and 4th Avenue. 
  • Completion is planned for September with high tenant interest expected for this modern, efficiency style apartment complex
  • Thirteen of the units are two-story, with living rooms on one level and bedrooms on the other

The century-old Navajo Preparatory School in Farmington, N.M., announced its groundbreaking on a $40 million campus expansion designed by Scottsdale's Thompson + Pollari.

The Navajo school is the only college preparatoryacademy in the country run by American Indians. The United Methodist Church founded the school in1891, and its oldest building was built in 1912.

The school considers renovation of the campus essential to its own future and that of the Navajo. The school's motto, translated from the Navajo, is “Tomorrow's leaders.''
